Cinema Diverse: The Palm Springs LGBTQ+ Film Festival returns to Palm Springs, California September 16 through the 30 in the Historic Camelot Theatres at the Palm Springs Cultural Center. A special pre-opening event, Drag Pop, is scheduled for the evening of September 15. This year, Cinema Diverse is offering a multi-platform experience with films available virtually and in-theatre (observing COVID guidelines). All Access Passes, Six-Packs, and Individual Tickets are now on sale – available online at CinemaDiverse.org, or through the Palm Springs Cultural Center Box-office during business hours Wednesday through Sunday.
Cloris Leachman’s last film JUMP, DARLING officially opens the festival the evening of September 16. It’s a bittersweet story of a rookie drag queen, reeling from a breakup, who escapes to the country and finds his grandmother (Cloris Leachman) in steep decline but desperate to avoid a nursing home (Scroll Down for the trailer). Other films include Firebird, a touching love story set in the Soviet Air Force during the Cold War, Being BeBe, the inspiring documentary about Cameroonian-American immigrant, Marshall Ngwa, aka the legendary BeBe Zahara Benet, the first ever winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race, AIDS DIVA: The Legend of Connie Norman, Yes I Am – The Ric Weiland Story, and more.
In addition to the new trending multi-verse approach to the festival, there are several live LGBTQ+ special events to participate in which are included in the All Access Pass! DRAGORAMA – a weekly Palm Springs Retrospective hosted by Drag Queen: Rosemary Galore premieres, Leanna Rodgers and Miguel Gomez showcase their local hit show DRAG-POP, and local artist Terry Hastings opens a new gallery showing upstairs in our VIP Lounge. Another artist is featured downstairs.
“We are thrilled to be back with Cinema Diverse,” said Michael C. Green, Festival Director, “and excited to not only have some of this year’s best LGBTQ+ films and filmmakers, but also incorporate other forms of LGBTQ+ art and live performance into the experience.”
